Activities

ATV
Some of the best ATV trails in the country are located right here in Fort Kent. A recently renovated railroad track bed has been converted into an ATV/walking/snowmobile trail. The trail is known as "The Heritage Trail" and goes from Market Street in Fort Kent 18 miles west to St. Francis. It connects to the rest of the Maine trail system, as well as many Irving roads.

Snowmobiling
Sled rentals are available as well as guided snowmobile tours. The area offers the largest snowmobile trail system in the United States.

Bicycling
Aroostook County's beautiful rural roads and miles of converted rail beds await you. A local bike event, Le Tour de Valley, is held the third week of August from Fort Kent to Madawaska to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Hunting
Guides are available for moose hunting. Moose hunting permits are issued by the state through a lottery system. The season for hunting moose is in late
September and early October. For more information about moose hunting in Maine visit http://www.state.me.us/ifw/hunting_trapping/hunting/moose.htm. Besides moose, Maine is an excellent place for hunting deer, game birds, rabbit and bear. Open season dates are generally late August through December.

Ice & Open Fishing
Fishing is great on our many nearby lakes, rivers and brooks. Aroostook County has regulations for both ice and open season fishing. You are able to purchase your fishing license on-line.

Sled Dog Races
Sled dog races are an exciting part of St. John Valley culture, and consist of 250, 60, and 30 mile races. The 250 race is the longest and highest caliber race in the eastern United States. It is a joy to see all the dogs as they begin their day at the heart of downtown Fort Kent.
